⚠️ BMW overview
BMW sells gasoline, diesel (select years), plug-in hybrid, and battery-electric models in the United States. Misfuel risk is highest on US-market diesel sedans and SUVs (328d, X5 35d, etc.) when gasoline is dispensed at passenger diesel pumps. BMW documents tank draining via fuel module service—not filler-neck extraction—and excludes fuel contamination from warranty.

Fuel system notes
- Capless fuel doors and anti-siphon fillers are common on modern US BMW models.
- High-pressure fuel pumps on gasoline direct injection models are vulnerable if wrong fuel is run.
- DEF is stored in a separate tank on diesel models—do not drain DEF in place of diesel fuel.
