Wrangler underbody clearance and skid plates often require tank drop for full drain. TechAuthority is mandatory for JL EcoDiesel fuel system work.

Misfuel risk High

Off-road and rental Wranglers see frequent driver changes. EcoDiesel JL units are highly sensitive to gasoline contamination.

If the engine was not started

Do not start—especially on EcoDiesel. Drain before priming.

If the engine was started

Expect HPFP/injector inspection on EcoDiesel; gasoline engines may need injector cleaning if diesel was run.

Access procedure

  1. Relieve fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain accessible fuel through the pump module opening when OEM allows; otherwise prepare for tank removal.
  3. Raise the vehicle safely; support the fuel tank with OEM-approved equipment.
  4. Disconnect filler neck, vent, EVAP, and supply/return lines at the tank.
  5. Lower the tank and empty remaining fuel into approved containers.
  6. Flush or replace components per contamination severity and OEM limits.
  7. Reinstall the tank, reconnect all lines, and torque fasteners to specification.
  8. Refill, prime, and verify fuel pressure and leak-free operation (Jeep service information).
