- Relieve fuel system pressure
- Disconnect negative battery cable
- Drain fuel tank using fuel recovery equipment
- Raise and support vehicle
- Disconnect fuel filler pipe and vent pipe
- Disconnect quick-connect fittings at fuel lines
- Disconnect fuel pump electrical connector
- Position suitable jack under fuel tank
- Remove fuel tank strap bolts
- Lower fuel tank"

⚠️ Duramax Diesel Engines
GM Duramax diesel engines (Silverado HD, Sierra HD, Colorado/Canyon 2.8L, Silverado 1500 3.0L) use common rail injection that is sensitive to gasoline contamination:
- Do NOT start the engine if wrong fuel suspected
- Do NOT cycle ignition — may prime fuel system
- LML 6.6L (2011–2016) CP4.2 pumps are especially vulnerable to gasoline damage—consult GM Service Information
- Many models require tank drop for complete drain—consult ACDelco TDS
- DEF systems on modern Duramax—never add DEF to the fuel tank
