Misfuel risk High

Fleet vans see frequent fill-ups. Diesel Transits face gasoline-in-diesel risk at passenger pumps; gasoline Transits face diesel nozzle errors. Confuse DEF only with DEF fill port, not diesel.

If the engine was not started

Do not prime fuel system on diesel if gasoline contamination suspected.

If the engine was started

Diesel with gasoline run: inspect HP pump, rails, injectors per Ford PTS; gasoline with diesel: filters and spark-related diagnostics.

Access procedure

  1. Identify fuel type from door label before remediation.
  2. Do not start diesel if gasoline was added — high-pressure pump risk.
  3. Disconnect battery, relieve pressure, support tank, disconnect lines and filler, lower tank per PTS.
  4. Drain, replace filters, inspect for contamination.
  5. Prime diesel per Ford procedure before start; gasoline per respective manual.
