⚠️ CRITICAL: Gasoline in Diesel (Power Stroke)
Ford Super Duty pickups with the 6.7L Power Stroke V8 diesel are high-risk for gasoline in diesel misfueling at passenger-car pumps or when distracted at a truck lane:
- Do NOT start the engine
- Do NOT turn ignition to RUN (lift pump may prime the high-pressure system)
- Leave the vehicle where it is
- Contact a USIFDA certified technician immediately
Gasoline destroys diesel fuel lubricity. High-pressure common-rail pumps can fail rapidly if the engine runs on contaminated fuel. Consult Ford Motorcraft Service / PTS for model-year-specific pump and injector inspection requirements.
⚠️ Ford Position — Super Duty Diesel
Ford prescribes fuel tank removal and approved drain procedures for accessing Super Duty diesel fuel tank contents.
Fuel contamination is excluded from warranty as misuse. USIFDA certified technicians follow Ford PTS procedures and document remediation for insurers.
Vehicle Specifications (US)
| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| Vehicle Type | Heavy-duty pickup truck (F-250, F-350; F-450/F-550 chassis variants) |
| Primary US Diesel | 6.7L Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel (high-pressure common rail) |
| Gasoline Options | Some Super Duty chassis may be gasoline — verify door jamb label and fuel cap before remediation |
| DEF | Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) system separate from diesel tank — do not confuse with fuel contamination |
| Fuel Tank Capacity | Often 34–48 gal main tank; optional secondary tank on many fleet and long-range configurations (consult OEM service information) |
| Fuel Pump Access Panel | Typically no — tank drop or Ford-prescribed drain path required |
| OEM Service Information | Ford Motorcraft Service / PTS |
High-Pressure Fuel System — Conservative Guidance
6.7L Power Stroke engines use very high fuel rail pressures. Gasoline in diesel is especially harmful to the supply pump and injectors if the engine runs:
- 2011–2019 trucks used a CP4.2-style high-pressure pump architecture widely reported as vulnerable to gasoline contamination — treat any engine-run event as a full-system inspection per Ford PTS
- Later model years use updated pump designs — still require OEM-guided inspection after gasoline contamination; do not assume components are undamaged
- Metal debris from a failed pump can contaminate rails, lines, and injectors
USIFDA does not publish Ford internal service bulletins — always consult current PTS instructions for the VIN.
USIFDA Recommended Method
✓ Method B: Full Tank Drop / Removal
Primary method for Super Duty diesel tank evacuation when no approved access panel procedure applies. Both main and auxiliary tanks must be assessed if equipped.
✗ Filler Neck Extraction
Not approved — anti-siphon hardware and ORVR components can be damaged. Not a Ford-prescribed remediation path.
Dual-Tank Configurations
Many US Super Duty trucks have front/rear or main/auxiliary fuel tanks with transfer valves:
- Identify all tanks and transfer paths before drain
- If the engine ran, assume contamination may have crossed tanks via the transfer system
- Drain, flush, and inspect per Ford PTS — tank capacities are often 34 gal + 40 gal combinations; consult OEM service information
