Misfuel risk Moderate

Performance coupe with premium gasoline recommendation; diesel mis-fill or E85 without flex-fuel calibration requires draining.

If the engine was not started

Do not start; drain before fuel pump primes.

If the engine was started

Replace filter, inspect injectors, and verify octane suitability after drain.

Access procedure

  1. Relieve fuel system pressure per Toyota service information (fuel pump relay/fuse, crank briefly if directed).
  2. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  3. Access the in-tank fuel pump module via the OEM access opening (rear seat or trunk panel on most US models).
  4. Disconnect electrical connector and quick-connect fuel lines; cap lines to limit vapor release.
  5. Remove the pump lock ring with the specified tool; lift the module carefully to avoid damaging the level sender.
  6. Extract contaminated fuel with approved equipment; inspect the tank interior through the opening.
  7. Reinstall with a new pump O-ring/gasket; reconnect lines and verify no leaks before starting.
  8. Prime and clear codes per Toyota repair manual; road test when fuel quality is confirmed.
