⚠️ Chrysler manufacturer position

Stellantis TechAuthority covers Pacifica fuel module access (often under rear floor) and tank removal. Hybrid models require standard high-voltage safety before fuel system work.

Misfuel risk Moderate

Family minivans see frequent rental and fleet use—drivers may grab the wrong handle at busy fueling stations. Diesel nozzle into gasoline tank is the usual US error.

If the engine was not started

Do not start. On Hybrid, follow high-voltage disable procedures before fuel work. Drain gasoline tank per TechAuthority.

If the engine was started

If the engine ran on contaminated fuel, replace filters, inspect injectors, and scan for misfire codes; hybrid readiness monitors may need drive cycles after repair.

Access procedure

  1. Relieve fuel system pressure per OEM service information (disconnect pump fuse/relay or use scan tool as specified).
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Access the fuel pump module per OEM (rear seat service hole, trunk floor, or cargo area—varies by model).
  4. Disconnect fuel lines and electrical connectors at the pump module using line-specific tools.
  5. Drain the tank into approved Class 3 containers; bond/ground per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.106.
  6. Inspect the tank interior; replace in-tank filter if contaminated or per OEM.
  7. Reinstall the pump module with a new seal; reconnect lines and wiring.
  8. Refill with the correct fuel grade; prime the system and check for leaks before road test (Chrysler procedure).

Frequently asked questions

I put diesel in my Pacifica—what now?

Do not start the 3.6L engine. Drain the gasoline tank via OEM access before diesel reaches the fuel rail. Hybrid: follow Stellantis de-energize steps first.

Does misfuel affect the Pacifica Hybrid battery?

Contamination is in the gasoline tank for the gas engine. High-voltage battery service is separate; still follow OEM safety for PHEV models during fuel work.

Regular or premium gas for Pacifica?

Most US Pacificas use regular 87 AKI per the fuel door label. Refill with the grade specified after a drain.
