Misfuel risk Moderate
Fleet and executive rentals increase wrong-nozzle events on gasoline E-Class; legacy diesel still sensitive to gasoline.
If the engine was not started
Keep ignition off on BlueTEC if gasoline was added. Drain completely.
If the engine was started
Full fuel system inspection; diesel high-pressure pump and injectors if gasoline was run.
Access procedure
- Relieve fuel system pressure per OEM service information (disconnect pump fuse/relay or use scan tool as specified).
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Access the fuel pump module per OEM (rear seat service hole, trunk floor, or cargo area—varies by model).
- Disconnect fuel lines and electrical connectors at the pump module using line-specific tools.
- Drain the tank into approved Class 3 containers; bond/ground per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.106.
- Inspect the tank interior; replace in-tank filter if contaminated or per OEM.
- Reinstall the pump module with a new seal; reconnect lines and wiring.
- Refill with the correct fuel grade; prime the system and check for leaks before road test (Mercedes-Benz procedure).
Notes
- Maybach E-Class based on W213 uses same fuel system layout—confirm trim in XENTRY.
Frequently asked questions
How do I tell if my E-Class is BlueTEC diesel?
Fuel door label, badging, and VIN decode. US diesel E-Class are increasingly rare in new sales.
Can I dilute gasoline in a BlueTEC tank?
Mercedes does not recommend dilution—drain and inspect per XENTRY before starting.
Does the E-Class PHEV have two fuel types?
PHEV uses a gasoline tank for the engine plus a traction battery—misfuel addresses the gasoline tank after HV safety steps.
